Quarter 1: Stock MarketSTUDENTS WILL LEARN ABOUT THE ECONOMICS AND PSYCHOLOGY OF THE STOCK MARKET AS THEY PARTICIPATE IN A MINI STOCK MARKET SIMULATION. THIS SIMULATION CORRESPONDS TO THE COMMON CORE STUDY OF DECIMALS. DURING THE SIMULATION, STUDENTS WILL BUY STOCK IN DIFFERENT CORPORATIONS, TRACK THE SALE OF THEIR STOCKS, EXAMINING HOW EVENTS EFFECT THE VALUE OF THEIR STOCK, AND DETERMINING PROFITS BASED ON THE STOCKS THEY OWN. STUDENTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO MAINTAIN A STOCK PORTFOLIO AND TRADING REPORT TO DOCUMENT ALL STOCK TRANSACTIONS. THEY ARE ALSO ENCOURAGED TO REVIEW LIVE STOCK MARKET DATA, SO THEY CAN SEE THE CORRELATION BETWEEN THEIR SIMULATION AND REAL LIFE
Quarter 2: Becoming a problem Solving GeniusEvery math student needs a tool belt of problem solving strategies to call upon when solving word problems. In addition to many traditional strategies, this unit will cover new techniques such as Think 1, the 2-10 method, and others developed by math educator Ed Zacarro. Each unit contains problems at five levels of difficulty to meet the needs of not only the average math student, but also the highly gifted.

Quarter 1: Beyond Base TenStudents will investigate the concept of place value and the representation of numbers by using place value and non-place value systems. Number bases other than Base Ten are featured through lessons that explore historical contexts of early civilizations that developed number systems different from the one we use today.
QUARTER 2: Hands on EquationsDuring this unit, students will develop a concrete foundation of algebra using a powerful whole brain approach to learning. Specifically, this program uses a visual and kinesthetic instructional system developed by Dr. Henry Borenson which enables students to easily and enjoyably learn essential algebraic concepts and skills. Dr. Borenson received a U.S. patent for his teaching invention.
